For senior Hannah Edwards, opening her mind to think outside the box has shaped her into the artist and flag football player she has become at LC.
“I have learned the value of community, discipline and stepping into new opportunities even when they push me out of my comfort zone,” she said.
Originally from Albany, Georgia, Edwards knew she wanted to find a college where she could grow her design skills.
“When I discovered LaGrange was close to home and had an array of programs within art and design, it was an easy decision to make,” she said.
Edwards, who has curated multiple exhibitions at the Lamar Dodd Art Center and created graphics for the LC Flag Football team, said she loves the creative process.
“To be able to bring my own ideas and others’ to life is a satisfying feeling,” she said. “There is no right or wrong, limits or expectations.”
Edwards said she values the one-on-one interactions with her professors.
“I constantly seek their feedback on my work and their advice on how to plan my next steps,” she said. “I really value learning from people who have already found success, because there’s always something to gain from those who came before you.”
Outside the studio, Edwards executes plays as a member of the flag football team, which was added as a new sport for the college in January 2025.
“I crave the intensity, the mind-game of reading an opponent before they move and the relentless grind of shaping yourself into the best athlete you can be for a game you’ll never get back,” she said. “Stepping onto that field feels like stepping into battle—the rush, the emotion, not knowing if your plan is going to work before the play. It reminds me exactly why I compete.”
After graduation, Edwards seeks to pursue a graphic design career in sports media.
Why should prospective students come to LC?
“Because it offers a supportive community, strong academic programs and opportunities to get involved on campus,” she said. “You’ll be surrounded by people who want to see you succeed both in and out of the classroom.”
